The second person who I am having the hardest time finding (the first was Steve ... 8 years people! lol) is the drummer off of Yeah Right's "Freak" cd ... Mike Newberry. I would love to know what he's up to. And let's set the record straight ... he was NOT fired as is mentioned in this old Yeah Right interview - home.nordnet.fr/~lbocquet/yeahright.htmlAccording to Steve Ripley's post here - spherarocks.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=yeahright&thread=88&post=154 Mike Newberry left the band because of he was in a relationship that demanded more time. Plain and simple. Unfortunatly you can't believe everything you read ... as some people have hidden agendas in order to make themselves look better than someone else. Very vain and self centered. I will continue the search for Mike Newberry. I won't give up. Hopefully someone out there can shed some light on this.

I'm 99% sure I may have found Mike Newberry today! Using some info provided to me from Steve Ripley, I found a band site and their drummer's name is Mike Newberry. The photos of their drummer look a lot like Mike Newberry from Yeah Right. Below is a composite I put together. Not only does he look like him and have the same name, he and his band are from the Quad Cities area which is also Yeah Right's birth place. Steve said Mike is "an accomplished Louie Bellson trained jazz drummer." On the band website I found, Mike's bio says he "has studied under the great Louie Bellson." All signs point to this being the Mike Newberry I've been looking for. I e-mailed the band and I hope you-know-who doesn't get to them before they reply. History has shown me that every time I find a good lead on something regarding the history of this band, some how, some way everyone clams up and doesn't want to talk as if someone has gotten in their ear. Even people who have talked freely to me in the past tend to seem to get quiet on me. I really do believe this is the Mike Newberry. Look at the photos above. Put a mustache and goatee on the guy on the right and I say it's a pretty good match to the pic on the left. Keeping my fingers crossed this band will e-mail me back.

My ongoing search for Mike Newberry has uncovered a few things. I'm learning he is from the Quad Cities. For some reason I thought he wasn't. The guy I think is him has played (and probably still is) with a lot of jazz bands. His dad is also a jazz drummer. I found an online newpaper article about him that mentioned a business he owns. So I went to his site, sent him an e-mail, and still waiting for a reply. Even if I don't get a reply, I'm willing to bet money he is the Mike Newberry that played drums on Yeah Right's "Freak" cd. I also learned that there is a very strong possibilty one of my friends/former co-worker who is on Facebook went to high school with him in the Quad Cities. At least that's my friend's feeling. He knew a Mike Newberry in high school that was a drummer.
I should wait to get a reply before I update Mike's bio but history proves that people involved with this band tend not to want to talk about the band or even reply to simple e-mails. This is not the case with everyone I've contacted but more times than not that's the way it goes. Despite all of that, I've still uncovered cool stuff (unreleased song info, trademark stuff, past members, etc). My point is, why wait for a reply which I probably won't get? I'm 99.9% sure I've found him. Getting confirmation would be nice though.

So as it is with most of the individuals involved with Yeah Right/Alone that I try to contact, I still have not gotten a response from Mike Newberry through his business site. I sent him an e-mail on 11/3/2011. I know he's busy with his work and family and his music but come on ... it doesn't take a whole lot of time or effort to reply and say "Yes, I am the one from Yeah Right" or "No, that's not me." There's gotta be some dark cloud or secret hanging over this band. Why else would most of these people not want to talk about the band?! Yes, I know the band is no longer and everyone has moved on but still, it's not like I'm trying to find dirt or personal stuff. All's he would have to say is "Yes it's me" or No it's not me." At least John Cardoso had the common courtesy to reply when I e-mailed him. Which is a hell of a lot more than I can say for most people surrounding this band. Enough of that. Here is some stuff I found about Mike Newberry. I still believe it's him until someone can prove otherwise. I found a site for a band called Roger Kimball Band. Here's the link ... check out the bio and compare it with what Steve posted on this board about Newberry. www.rkband.comAnother band I found is called The Senses. www.thesenses.net/music.htmThis is a pretty good write-up about Mike Newberry I found on an Illinois newspaper called The State Journal Register. www.sj-r.com/ourtowns/chatham/x1584296868/Chatham-streams-in-local-music-scene-Chatham-produces-several-jazz-gemsThis article mentions Mike Newberry being in the pest control business. Here's Mike Newberry's pest control website. www.newberrystermite.com/I would be interested in building him a better site. Just saying ... Here is Mike's dad's official site ... Joe Newberry. luckysoft.netI also did some research into the domain for Mike's pest control site. All of the following info is freely available to the public! The registrant for www.newberrystermite.com/ is Lucky Software Development. Lucky Soft ... his dad's website. The administrative and technical contact for the pest control site is Mike's dad, Joe. And a friend of mine grew up in the Quad Cities and went to high school with a guy named Mike Newberry who he said was a drummer. And he said his dad's name is Joe. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to piece this all together. I know I found him. Also, I sent an e-mail to the Roger Kimball band website - no reply. I sent an e-mail to Roger Kimball himself via Facebook - no reply. I sent an e-mail to Newberry's pest control site - no reply. Any time I send out e-mails I am very polite and respectful. Yet for some unknown mysterious reason, no will will give me the courtesy of a very simple reply. And as I said before, I'm not looking for private or personal information. All's I want to know is what former members of Yeah Right and Alone are doing these days. You know, if they are still making music or not? That's it! Is that such a horrible thing? I do have a few more tricks up my sleeve. Although I'm convinced I already found him, I'm still going to try to get verification.

So I go to this guys website who's name is "Joker" Joe Newberry. He's a drummer and has a son named Mike. I send Joe an e-mail but it gets bounced right back to me with one of those "failure" notices. I read it and it basically says my e-mail could not be delivered because Joe's mail box is full. WTH? Is he using WebTV or what? I find his YouTube channel but I see he hasn't logged into there for over 3 months. I could've sworn I saw his Facebook page one time but now I can't find it. Here is "Joker" Joe Newberry's site- www.luckysoft.net/Judging by the looks of his site, it's easy to tell he also did the Newberry pest control site - www.newberrystermite.comApparently he fancies himself as a web designer. And yes I just used the word fancies. I found two other sites he made and they all have the same feel. I'll keep trying to get that elusive verification that I indeed have tracked down Mike Newberry.

I just tried emailing "Joker" Joe Newberry again. So far it hasn't been bounced back like it did last time. So maybe he finally got around to cleaning out his inbox. Hopefully I'll get some kind of reply from him. But we all know how that goes, right?!
